Jarabacoa Waterfalls & Mountains Adventure from Santo Domingo

approx. 12 hoursPrice on request

Overview

Jarabacoa is the Dominican Republic's mountain town — around 2 h 30 north of Santo Domingo in the Cordillera Central, known as the "city of eternal spring" for its cooler climate. This full-day adventure visits the Salto de Jimenoa and Salto de Baiguate waterfalls, crosses coffee country and pine forests, and can add river rafting on the Yaque del Norte or canyoning (seasonal and weather dependent). Lunch is a traditional Dominican meal in the mountains.

Why book this tour

Most visitors never leave the coast. Jarabacoa shows the green, mountainous Dominican Republic — rivers, coffee farms and pine forests — and makes a strong contrast to the Colonial Zone and the beaches.

Who it suits

Active travellers, families with older children, repeat visitors and anyone who wants nature and cooler air rather than another beach day.

Good to know

Rafting depends on river levels and is usually booked with a specialist local operator. After heavy rain some trails may be closed; we adapt the plan so the day still works.

Questions

About 155 km — roughly 2 h 30 by road each way. It is a long day, but the scenery is completely different from the coast.
